Lifewater International - Communicating the message of a grassroots organization
A Red Canary interview

Who is lifewater?

Lifewater International is a Christian development organization working to provide safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education to communities around the world through training and partnerships with local communities.

Describe this project?
Working with Lifewater we produced a 10 minute long video that really explains and informs viewers about the world water, sanitation, and hygiene crisis, and how Lifewater is responding to it.

Where did all the footage and images come from?
For the last five years Red CANARY has been working with Lifewater on collecting video, and still image assets for this video project. All of the overseas video clips and still images were collected by Lifewater Field Trainers. The interviews were all shot by Red CANARY at Laguna Lake in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Where did the background music come from?
The music was collected by a lifewater field trainer in a village in Zambia.

Why is the project important?
This project is important because of the uniqueness of Lifewater’s strategy. For many years water development in third world countries consisted mostly of westerner’s traveling overseas, drilling a bunch of wells and then leaving.

Lifewater’s three fold system of water, sanitation and hygiene education along with sustaining international partners is revolutionary in it’s approach. While not as glamorous as just going somewhere and drilling a bunch of wells, it is the most long lasting approach developed.

Can you describe how the map sequence came about?
After working with LIfewater for about 5 years I still was a little foggy on how they actually did things. I had heard their process explained, even read about it, but I just didn't get it. Half way through the project, after really getting into the nitty-gritty details of how Lifewater worked, I finally got it. I was shocked too, because its such a great system for growth and sustainability.

We came up with this mapped based graphical idea to help everyone else get the concept as well. I think it works pretty good.
